How to Dress for Both Comfort and Style

AD

For too long fashion has had a reputation for not being all that comfortable. In the ’90s the phrase ‘beauty is pain’ popped back into fashion as uncomfortable fashions were shoehorned onto unsuspecting bodies.

Thankfully, fashion has moved forward a lot in the past thirty years, and styles are made with fitting well in mind. Skinny jeans are out, comfort is in and if your clothes don’t feel good, you shouldn’t be wearing them.

Here are my best tips for making sure you’re on trend in some very wearable fashions.

Start with what can’t be seen

Yes, that’s right, I’m talking about your undies. How can you expect to comfy if you haven’t got your base layer right? More and more women are opting for bras without underwires and pants that hug without digging in. Quite frankly, it’s about time women’s underwear was comfortable.

If your underwear drawer needs an update, opt for a bralette (or a non-wired, soft-padded bras if you’re after more support). Briefs should be whatever you feel best in. Boy shorts? Go for it! Full briefs? No longer for grannies! Whatever you feel best in is exactly what you should be spending your money on.

Don’t dress to impress!

Wear loose-fitting midi dresses for a casual and non-restrictive outfit. If you feel like you’re wearing a sack, then you’re doing it right. If you’d rather have some more shape to your silhouette, team it with a belt to cinch you in.

Don’t worry about structure, and if your clothes make you feel like you have to suck your tummy in, it’s time to ditch them!

Baggy trousers

Did I mention skinnies were out? TikTok told me I’m old because I was waltzing about town in skinny jeans, giving away to all and sundry that I was born in the last century! Thankfully, the non-skinny option us much more comfortable than what I was wearing.

Baggy jeans, flares, wide-leg trousers and blank joggers are what you should wear instead. And because baggy is in, you can go as loose-fitting as you like! I didn’t think I could say goodbye to my skinnies, but I’m honestly loving life without waistbands digging in.

Oversized tees

On top of the baggy jeans, oversized tees are back in fashion. Tuck in the front so you don’t look swamped when you pair it with your baggy jeans. Or of you’d rather not – don’t! The rules have changed and there are no rules now. Wear your T-shirt how you want! You could even tie it and turn it into a cropped top for a bit of variety.

Get oversized plain-colored tees in various colors for more options. The more color options you have, the more varied your outfits can be. Plus, you can wear any color you want based on your mood!

Co-ords

Co-ords are another thing I love about the current fashion. Generally, they’re a set of matching top and leggings that are stretchy, light and comfy enough to be pyjamas. They’re acceptable to wear outdoors but you feel like you’ve gone out in your nightwear. Who wouldn’t want pyjamas that you can wear in the cold light of day?

For a sporty look, go for cropped top and leggings, for comfort a jumper and leggings or jumper and joggers are great. In the summer you can swap the cosy outfits out for cycling shorts and vests (also matching).

There really is something comfy to wear for all occasions – all year round. Are you ready to update your wardrobe for the comfiest fashion yet?
