Spending lots of time at home has got me thinking about what my dream home would look like. There’s nothing like a lockdown to give you the opportunity to fantasise for hours on end about buying properties abroad (and what you’d put in them).
I’m a bit of an interiors voyeur. I’ll often find myself perusing Pinterest, swooning over the luxury interiors in houses I can’t afford. Several months of staying at home have only propelled that interest further. I now care about exteriors too, and more specifically, where the whole house is situated.
The recent drop in temperature has got me wishing for sunny summers under clear blue skies. I want to be in walking distance of a beach. Currently, I live near Cleethorpes beach, but the sea is kind of brown and the sand is neither warm nor white.
I want to be near a gorgeous beach, and live in a beautiful house. While we’re indulging in my fantasy, I think I’d also like a modern walk-in wardrobe (which will obviously be stocked with amazing clothes, shoes and accessories).
I’d want a property in Marbella
If I’m talking about my dream house, it would need to be abroad. I’ve been browsing real estate in Marbella because a house I once saw on Pinterest sucked me down a rabbit hole of luxury property in the resort. There’s just something about the city that just draws me in.
A pool is a MUST
You can’t plan a fantasy property in Marbella without fantasising about a pool. If had a pool I’d spend my days reading beside it and nipping in for a swim to cool down. I’d have pool parties and I’d swim lengths each morning. My preference is an infinity pool, but honestly, I’d be living my best life if I had my own pool.
A balcony is also essential
If I had a luxury house and a pool, I also expect my garden would be gorgeous too. This means I’d need a balcony to fully enjoy the view. I’d eat my evening meal on my balcony at sunset as I looked out over my garden and pool. Sounds like heaven, right?
My interiors would be minimalist style
A large house in a hot country lends itself to minimalism. I’d choose light coloured furniture, lots of space to move about and as little clutter as possible. Lighting is really important to me so I’d make sure I had bright light fittings, but I’d also utilise lots of lamps. This means I could have a variety of lighting looks, including dimmed lighting if I’m trying to create a relaxing atmosphere.
A bespoke bedroom is my bag
Presumably I’d be getting my fantasy house thanks to a sudden influx of cash. This would mean if I can afford to buy my dream property, I can also afford the interiors I want. I’d love an enormous bed that has light, airy fabric curtains that drape around the top. As I have plans for a walk-in wardrobe, my bedroom would be all about relaxing, so there wouldn’t be a need for much furniture. A cosy rug and a TV would complete the room, along with a bedside table to park a glass of water (and some midnight snacks).
