Oh, how much easier it would be, if parenting and family life came with a manual — but alas, it doesn’t. We all have to essentially make it up as we go along, and that means that it often feels like we’re always one step — or more — behind where we need to be. There’s just so much we need to do to stop family life and the home from falling apart at the seams. And so, wouldn’t it be easier if we could make this side of life a little more straightforward, a little more fluid, and a little less chaotic? There are some ways to do this, as we’ll see below.

Well-Organised
You’ll always feel like order is just out of reach if you’re rushing around trying to get everything done. In order to ensure that everything happens at the right time without a frantic dash, it’s important to be well-organised. This can be as simple as having a calendar of the day’s activities, planning meals (and keeping an ongoing grocery list that everyone can add to), and doing as much to prepare for the day the night before. If you prepare well, it’ll always feel like you’ve got a fairly firm grip on things.
The Right Set Up
It’s important that you have the right set up for your family. You’ll find that everything runs a lot more smoothly when you have the systems in place that are suited for your specific family needs. This can mean owning the right home, having a car that’s large and versatile enough to transport your entire clan to wherever they need to go, and creating a calm and efficient system in your home. In some cases, this might mean selling your current property and buying a larger one: growing families need space! For the car, you should look for an SUV like a used range rover sport — it has all the qualities that families need, including space and the ability to handle a variety of terrains.
Regular Routines
It’ll be difficult to get into the family groove — which is essential for having the family run in an efficient way — if nobody knows what they’re supposed to be doing and when. Indeed, studies have shown that a routine has a lot of benefits for a family, especially the children, who need stability in their lives. You’ll function like clockwork if you’re doing the same things every morning, dinner is at the same time, and so on.
Everyone Helps
It’ll be hard to stay on top of all that needs to be done if just one person is responsible for everything that the family does. While you’ll want to leave any small children out of things, once they’re old enough for a few responsibilities, you should hand them a few chores. It’ll teach them a good work ethic, which is always important, but most importantly, it’ll lighten your load — with that saved time, you can look after yourself and restore your energy. If you’re at your best, the family will be too.
