Dealing with a pandemic is scary enough, but with the addition of having kids home all day, any parent may feel nervous. Kids are often full of energy, and they require a lot of attention when they are young. If you are looking for ways to entertain your children, here are six creative ideas that are bound to use a few hours of your day.
1. Go Outside

The great outdoors is your biggest asset. When quarantine and isolation seem stifling, go outside to social distance in the fresh air. Your kids will enjoy the scenery, breezes and sounds of the birds. Go on walks, explore parks or find nearby hikes.
Find creative ways to help your children go outside. You could create scavenger hunts that encourage them to find new or rare things out on hikes or in the backyard. You could have a water day where they play with the hose and throw water balloons. No matter how you do it, you will enjoy the time outside soaking in the vitamin D.
2. Make a Craft
The internet provides thousands of DIY crafts for children. Order some crafting supplies and start making cool projects with your kids. Find things that you can work on together or encourage each child to make something original. You can also find some origami paper and tutorials to pass the time. Although some designs are very intricate, you can find easier ones that work for specific age groups.
3. Have a Reading Day
Sometimes the best days are lazy days. Find a nice place to lounge and read some of your favorite books with your children. Some books are fun to read together, while others can keep your children occupied while you find something else to do. If you are road tripping anywhere, consider purchasing an audio book for the ride.
4. Try Baking

Little kids love to bake, especially if they get to lick the bowl after. Find some easy recipes you can do as a family, and then enjoy the treat once it’s cooked. If you want to get extra creative, pretend it is a cooking show. Your spouse can be the judge, or you can film it and show it to friends and family on social media. The kitchen might get messy, but it can be worth the memories.
5. Put on a Play
If your children love to be outgoing and silly, write a play together and act it out. You can hang a sheet outside or in the living room and perform it to other members of the family. You could even live stream it if you’re okay with lots of giggles during the scenes. This can be a great way to bond with family and learn a new talent.
6. Encourage Them To Find Hobbies
Although you should try to stay home and be careful, you can encourage your children to find new things to do. Offer to teach them the skills you know and let them learn more about things they are interested in doing.
With these six ideas, you can battle self-isolation and make the time at home fun and exciting. Not every day has to be wild, but you can incorporate these ideas to change things up occasionally.
