AD – Gifted
A family games night is always heaps of fun. We’re lucky enough to have a few games in our collection but we’re always glad to add to it as the kids grow. Most of our games nights depend on whether Greg is old enough to grasps the game at hand. He’s and has good reasoning, so most games are good to go these days.
We received an awesome games bundle from Spinmaster and we were delighted to expand our collection! The games that arrived were Grouch Couch (suitable from 5+), Beat the Parents (suitable from 6+) and Hedbanz (suitable from 7+). With a little help from his big sister, Greg was able to win at Beat the Parents!
Grouch Couch
Everyone knows your sofa eats anything within reach when your back is turned. That’s where all those pound coins went. And the remote control. And that doll’s shoe you don’t remember losing. Then one day it spits them out when you’re not even looking for them. Most of the time it’s pretty annoying, but it’s a handy place to find a pound when the ice cream van is down your street!
Grouch couch riffs of the well-known hungry sofa stereotype and adds its own fun twist! Let the couch eat the treats you leave out, and if you’re lucky it’ll spit out some coins as a reward.
The game comes with Grouch Couch, some treats, a dice and some coins. Roll the dice, an leave that number of treats on the seat. Then press the remote control and the couch might eat your treat. He doesn’t do this discreetly though, he chomps, burps and grumbles as he goes!
It’s a really fun game that gives way to lots of raucous laughter throughout. It’s fast-paced, competitive and will have you and your family in stitches!
Beat the Parents
Designed to put all members of the family on an even footing, Beat the Parents pits kids against adults in a race to the finish. Its simple rules mean that it can be picked up and played straightaway, without having to digest a weighty instruction book.
Each team advances if they either get a question right, or complete a challenge. These challenges range from paper aeroplane contests to memory games, so even those who aren’t confident with general knowledge trivia can help push their team toward the finish line and household glory!
Every child loves to get one over on the grown-ups, especially their own parents, so expect the kids to throw everything they’ve got at you!
I think the parent’s questions are definitely much harder than the ones for kids, so you have to work hard to beat your offspring. Even some of the kid’s questions baffled me! My kid win most of the time, so don’t play if you hate losing to your 10-year-old!
Hedbanz
Hedbanz brings the classic ‘what am I?’ game to life. Players each wear a headband with a card attached that everybody but themselves can see. A series of “yes” or “no” questions are all the players have to determine what the cards on their heads say.
There are six headbands in the box to allow for a big raucous family game, while the included scoring badges make it easy to keep track of the scores.
Those with Apple or Android phones can also download the accompanying app to help them play along. It’s by no means essential, but allows users to capture videos with funny face filters added. There’s nothing like recording Dad asking “Do I eat bones?” whilst unwittingly having the face filter show him panting and wagging his tail like a dog!
This game is a right laugh, and you’ll be surprised at some of the questions you’ll find yourself asking!
The entire bundle provided hours of family entertainment and I think a family games night will be on the cars again very soon!
