There was a time when Slimming World-friendly wine seemed like something I could only dream of! With the average glass of red wine coming in at 5 Syns per serving, it’s mind blowing that Black Tower have managed to launch a range of wine that’s just 1.5 Syns per 125ml glass!
I was sent a selection of the new Slimming World-friendly wine from Black Tower to try for myself and pair with my favourite Slimming World recipes. I’m also running a giveaway, meaning one lucky reader can enjoy their very own case of Deliciously Light wine from Black Tower
A Little About the Deliciously Light Range from Black Tower
Black tower have launched a healthier option wine for those who are following a healthy lifestyle. This low calorie, low alcohol range of wine tastes just as good as its calorific counterpart without damaging the diet!
Black Tower have been busy – as well as launching a tasty range of low-Syn wines, they are also this year’s official sponsors of Tough Mudder UK, meaning they’re really getting behind your health overhaul!
Black Tower Deliciously Light Red
This Slimming World-friendly red wine has a warm, smooth taste that makes you feel like you’re drinking a much naughtier glass of wine. The flavour feels very similar to full-calorie red wine, but has a slightly lighter texture, despite the spiced berry tones.
The Deliciously Light Red is best paired with heavier dishes, especially those that are tomato-based, which is why I paired mine with this Syn-free pasta recipe made with a tomato-based sauce and Swedish style Quorn balls.
The wine went perfectly with the meal, it brought out the rich flavours of the tomatoes in the sauce and made me feel like I was having a really naughty treat. This low-calorie red wine is perfect for when you’re in the mood for comfort food. After tea, I treated myself to a second glass and curled up with a book to conclude my night of (innocent) indulgence.
Black Tower Deliciously Light White
Black Tower Deliciously Light White wine has a fruity flavour and is best paired with light cuisines. It’ll go well with vegetarian or Asian cuisines, but on this occasion I paired it with my favourite light meal: salmon with Moroccan inspired cous cous.
This meal is 4 Syns because it uses dried fruit, but if you wanted save your Syns, you could skip the dried fruit. The passion fruit and grape flavour complemented the fruity taste of the Moroccan inspired cous cous perfectly. The wine lets you treat yourself, without wasting any valuable Syns, which is why I like it so much!
Black Tower Deliciously Light Rosé
The Rosé version of the Deliciously Light range is crisp and fruity. I paired with a Syn-free dessert of frozen summer berries, topped with 0% fat plain Greek yoghurt. Both the wine and the dessert a fruity and tart, which make them a match made in slimming heaven!
The best thing about this dessert is that you can make it last. Leave the berries frozen so you can savour them as they thaw in your mouth, or leave at room temperature for an hour so the berries soften and can be eaten with ease.
Black Tower Deliciously Light Sparkling
The Sparkling Deliciously Light wine from Black Tower is fizzy and refreshing. Wonderful peach and peach flavours rise up through the bubbles and taste amazing. I’m a sucker for a bit of fizz, so this will probably be my Saturday night go-to for a while.
This wine is best paired with a little bit of spice, so I chose to consume it with a fab, syn-free savoury mince dish that I serve with spiced sweet potato wedges.
It always feels so luxurious to have fizzy wine, so after my dinner, I had a couple more glasses while I pampered myself with a long soak and a sheet mask.
All of the wines I tried were delicious and I was pleasantly surprised at how full the flavours were despite the wine being very low in calories and Syn value!
