My daughter is very just. If somebody behaves in a manner she deems inappropriate, she feels they should be brought to justice. As you can imagine, this doesn’t always make her very popular and there came a point when she was having daily fallouts.
Being the glorious social butterfly that I am, I decided to give her advice. I told her to notice and compliment if her friends had something new or different and try and say one nice thing to someone every day. She took heed and came home much happier every day.
About two weeks passed and she had some news for me. She had been elected as student councillor and won by a landslide. She had an 11 vote lead in a class of 30 against 6 other candidates! What a turn around.
So instead of teaching her social skills, I essentially had her out there canvassing! I’ve trained her to be a disingenuous, sleazy politician. What a parenting fail! Oh well, she’ll probably end up prime minister!
