I don’t know about where you are, but the sun has finally come out in the glorious town of Grimsby. Evenings seem to stretch out endlessly, while we lose light long after the kids have gone to bed. The real summer has finally arrived and relaxing outdoors feels like the most natural thing on the planet.
I’m not a big drinker, but I do like to have the odd glass of something alcoholic on a summery evening. I like something that’s easy to sip and feels light to match the season (don’t you find winter drinks are always so heavy? Baileys and Advocaat don’t belong in warm weather. Light drinks go well with hot days.)
My Top 3 Drinks for Summer Evenings
Just in case you needed some summer drink inspiration, I’ve listed my current faves. They’re affordable but not cheap. They’re classy drinks without being show-offs.
1. Willow & Stone Sparkling Rosé
I was sent this wine to sample, but it made it into my drinks round up because it was so tasty! The bubbles were light, the taste was sweet without being overly sugary. The strawberry and raspberry flavours taste fresh and in no way synthetic (like some rosé flavours can).
It was an easy drink and at only 8% abv, I didn’t end up too tipsy too quickly!
Available from Co-op for £5.00
2. Rhubarb & Ginger Gin and Indian Tonic
Flavoured gin is very ‘of the moment’ and after tasting this Rhubarb & Ginger flavoured gin by Whitley Neil, it’s easy to see why. This is a slightly sweeter twist on the traditionally bitter taste of normal gin and the flavours complement one another perfectly.
Available from all the main supermarkets for £19-£26 (depending on what offers are on in-store at the time)
3. Plantation Rum & Coconut Water
I’m not sure why, but adding coconut water to rum makes me feel like I’m being healthy! Coconut water is naturally light and sweet, so it makes sense that a sweet rum would mix well with it. The finished beverage tastes like a sweet treat and could even replace a pudding at the end of your meal if you wanted a lower calorie option.
