Summer has well and truly arrived, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll be ready for a summer holiday! But what should you pack in terms of skincare? Which makeup will you actually bother with? Can you really sustain a 10-step skincare routine abroad? Probably not!
I’ve teamed up with Cosmetify to help you decide what you should pack, what you should ditch and which minis are the best to take on the plane. You might even be able to condense your skincare routine!
Your suitcase should already be full of swimwear, shoes and SPF, but your makeup bag and skincare doesn’t need to take up a lot of room. My friends over at Cosmetify want me to share my recommendations for holiday makeup and minis. They stock thousands of brands, meaning you can condense your makeup bag and shorten your skincare routine, all on the one site. I’m delighted to have been asked to share my tips, because I love talking about anything beauty-related!
Everything in the list below is available on the Cosmetify site. In fact, they stock thousands of brands and over 160,00 products, so chances are almost anything you could want will be on there. I think Cosmetify are a fab beauty discovery website because there sell such a huge range of products (all sensibly priced) and great product recommendations. If you’re after a bit more packing inspiration after reading this, they have an article on their favourite minis and travel sized products.
From the high-end brands like MAC, Dior and Charlotte Tilbury, to affordable beauty products from NYX, Sleek and Rimmel, there is something on the site for everyone with every budget. Hardcore makeup fans won’t be disappointed either, with brands like Lime Crime, Illamasqua and Anastasia Beverly Hills, you will never not be spoiled for choice!
Beauty & Skincare Travel Tips
I like to think I’ve picked up a thing or two about beauty over the years. I’ve been obsessed with makeup since my early teens, and hot on skincare since my mid-twenties. I’ve tried hundred of products and a few favourite brands have really stood out for me over the years.
These picks are from brands I have personally used and loved:
Travel Size Skincare Minis
For your holiday skincare routine, I’d just buy this Nuxe mini set because it’s got everything you might need. There are a few versions of this set around, but this on contains micellar cleansing water, melting cleanser gel, dry oil, moisturising cream, detoxifying night cream, and hand cream. There isn’t really anything else you could need and it’s a bargain for everything you get in it – the full size products would set you back at least a couple of hundred pounds!
You holiday makeup bag
Normal makeup rules don’t apply on holiday. Foundation is likely to be too heavy for the heat, and if you’ll be in and out of the water all day, eyeshadow is pretty unnecessary too. I’d got for a light tinted moisturiser/BB cream that has built-in SPF, then all you really need is highlighter and waterproof mascara for the day. Add eyeliner, contour/bronzer and eyebrow pencil for evenings and you’re all set – no massive makeup bag required!
Laura Mercier and NARS both make lush tinted moisturisers that contain SPF. They’re so nice that you might want to swap them into everyday makeup bag once you get home!
For highlighter, I’d go for a stick because it’ll apply to your dewy holiday skin a bit better. Benefit do a great one called Watts up. They also make a very easy to use eyebrow pencil (aptly named Goof Proof) and a fab bronzer (Hoola) than can double as contour and really accentuate those cheekbones!
Last but not least, Eyeko make a travel size waterproof mascara, which will give your lashes volume, but stay put in the pool. Once you’ve lived a life with a simplified makeup bag for a week, you might never go back to your old ways, so prepare to be converted!
