I write a lot about beauty products. I talk about what I’ve tried and whether it’s worth parting with your own money. I try and give a balanced view so that people don’t waste any cash buying products that aren’t suitable for them.
The beauty treatment this article covers is a little different in that it’s free! Steam is such a great beauty tool and it never really gets the attention it deserves. It also has health benefits and can fix certain ailments and it’s about time steam got its spotlight!
These are the amazing things you can do with steam
Steam has loads of uses in health and beauty, here are some of them:
Steam helps give you clear skin

I have a home facial sauna that I crack out every once in a while when my skin is bad. Steam seems to soften spots and blackheads (making them easier to treat and disperse) as well helping bring any impurities to the surface of your skin.
Treating your skin with steam every once in a while can help keep your skin looking bright and help prevent spots forming. Although I use a facial sauna for my own steam treatment, you don’t actually need to invest in anything to enjoy these benefits, putting your face over a large bowl of boiling water and a towel over your head will also create steam tent for free!
A steam shower can help you unwind and reduce stress

Steam showers are different from regular showers as they are designed to produce and diffuse steam in a specified enclosure. It is thought that steam showers can help alleviate muscle pain (some physiotherapists even incorporate them into their treatment).
The showers that allow for aromatherapy (like Insignia Steam Showers) allow you to infuse essential oils into your steam shower experience which can assist with stress relief. It’s lovely to breathe deeply and enjoy and aromas as the warm steam surrounds you.
Helps clear cold and flu symptoms

I tend to suffer with a lot of sinus problems and would rather not spend most days medicated. I have rhinitis which seems to make me more prone to sinusitis, and if I catch a cold, I get really intense sinus pain. There’s no way I could spend most days drugged up on Lemsips and other decongestants – I feel too drowsy after taking them.
Inhaling steam can help loosen any sinus blockages, which in turn makes it easier to drain the sinuses and alleviates pain. I tend to use my facial sauna for this, as a dual purpose beauty treatment and cold-curer, but you can use a steam shower or try and inhale steam from a container of hot water.
It can make waxing easier
If you take a steam shower and exfoliate thoroughly before you intend to wax, it can soften the skin around the hairs and make hair removal less painful. A word of warning though, waxing is never pain-free, so make sure you’ve got some aloe and some baby oil at hand to sooth your empty hair follicles!
