Gorgeous feet don’t come easily for most people. Arguably the most important part of the body, feet are often neglected when it comes to self-care.
Your feet will get a bit of a battering during the course of your life, especially when you’re a mother. They lug you around when you’re walking for two during the course of your pregnancy, they endure sudden bursts of running when your toddler makes a break for it, and they’re faced with several years of stepping on Lego.
We need to be kinder to our feet! These footcare tips for gorgeous feet will help you give your feet the treatment they deserve – without splashing out on expensive pedicures!
Footcare Tips for Gorgeous Feet
It’s time to treat your feet!

Avoid ill-fitting shoes
It seems like an obvious point to make, but badly fitting shoes should be avoided at all costs. Shoes that are too tight can do more than just pinch your feet and cause blisters. They can also distort your feet, crush your toes and cause painful bunions – ouch! Think about that next time you consider buying those beautiful shoes that are a little on the small side!
If your shoes are a little big, you don’t have to let your feet flop around in them, or wear six pairs of socks. A much simpler solution would be to add some insoles for more comfort – they’ll make the shoe fit better and some even offer heel support!
Soak your tired feet

It’s not unusual to have tired, aching feet at the end of a long day. Instead of putting those feet up, consider soaking them instead. A warm foot soak with moisturising, scented oils can be a lovely way to relax at the end of the day, as well a being a great way to look after your feet.
Soaking your feet can also relax the muscles that have been strained all day, and improve your skin’s health. Remember to moisturise your feet after soaking them to help keep them extra soft.
Don’t over-trim your nails
Trimming your toenails is essential for hygiene and comfort, but cutting them too short can have an adverse effect. Nails that are cut too short can be painful and if your skin is broken, it can make you more susceptible to infection. If you’re not a great judge of how much to trim off, try filing them with a glass nail file instead.
Remover nail polish every week

Beautiful toenail polish is synonymous with pretty feet, but once it starts to chip, it looks worse than just leaving the nails unpainted and natural.
It’s best to remove nail polish after about seven days by using an acetone-free nail polish remover (which helps prevent damage to your nails). There’s no reason why you shouldn’t paint your nails again immediately after taking off the old polish, just look out for signs of dryness and flaking (if this happens, invest in a conditioning base coat to strengthen your nails).
