How I’ve Added Collagen to my Routine – A Naked Collagen Review

ad/review

It’s no secret that I’ve made a lot of lifestyle changes as I hurtle towards my 40th birthday. In case you missed me going on about it all over my blog and social media, I’ve lost almost 90lbs in the past few months. That’s well over 6 stone and I’m almost at my goal.

Since starting my health journey, I’ve become a lot more aware of what my body needs (and what I was neglecting to give it). I’ve had a little help losing the weight with a GLP-1, but that does mean I’m eating a lot less. With a more limited diet, I’ve been researching what I should be adding.

One thing that stuck out was collagen. It’s not even anything to do with my diet – I just spent some time looking into what supplements were a good idea for women my age, and collagen was up there. What’s more, it complements the use of GLP-1s when people are using a lot of weight. So I found out that  I should be using a collagen supplement whether I was on a GLP-1 or not – but especially since I am on one!

After realising I really should be adding a collagen supplement into my day, I decided to try this one from Naked Nutrition.

Naked Collagen from Naked Nutrition

Naked Nutrition specialise in making premium supplements that aren’t pumped full of additives, colouring or anything that you don’t really want to add to your body. After all, if you’re on a health journey like me, then you want everything you have to be healthy!

side of the packet for Naked Collagen

In the picture above, you can see that the collagen contains no nasties. In fact it say says:

Naked Collagen contains only one ingredient, certified grass-fed collagen peptides, fully traceable to their origin, ensuring unmatched purity and transparency. Naked Collagen is free from hormones, antibiotics, and industrial feeds, and contains no artificial flavours, colours, sweeteners or fillers.

I was pleasantly surprised by Naked Collagen. It only has 39 calories per serving and the tub comes with a scoop to make getting your serving size right nice and easy. I don’t have the energy for weighing and measuring, so including a scoop gave them a big tick in my book.

After reading the side the packet to see how to take the collagen, it turns out it’s just as simple as adding a scoop to your drink. It isn’t designed to change the flavour and I don’t think it does. I can’t notice it in water, and I don’t think it alters the taste of my cup of tea either. I do prefer to have it in a cuppa though.

Naked collagen scoop

Once you’ve made your drink of choice, just add one level scoop full and it’ll dissolve almost instantly. I’m serious – it dissolves in front of you eyes. To be fair, it does say that it is ‘highly soluble’ but it’s the fastest I’ve seen a supplement dissolve. You don’t even need to stir! It doesn’t smell of anything and you can’t taste it, so it’s almost like you didn’t even add it to your drink with how quickly it dissolves!

I’ve been taking it for just over a week not and I truly believe my skin is looking better. I certainly feel as though I’m looking fresh. So far, I’m very pleased with it and intend to repurchase once I run out.

Why Women Need a Collagen Supplement

Collagen is a protein found in the human body, but as we age, this tends to deplete. It’s responsible for skin elasticity (which if you’ve got a lot of elasticity, it helps keep you looking young). Aside from the beauty benefits, it helps with bones, tendons, ligaments and all your connective tissue. This means you’ll stay limber longer if you have good collagen supplies.

From my research, I found out that collagen is basically the ‘beauty supplement’. It helps give you strong hair and nails and keeps your skin looking smooth and full of bounce. As I mentioned above, it’s good for your body beyond just your looks. Because collagen can boost the health of your connective tissues, it can be an excellent supplement for joint health.

So whether you want healthy joints and wind up with radiant skin, or want to stave off those wrinkles and end more spritely than you’ve ever been, collagen is a great all-rounder that everyone can benefit from.

Why Women on a GLP-1 Can Benefit From a Collagen Supplement

As I already mentioned, my weight loss has been down to the help of a GLP-1. I’m really glad I started a health journey as it has prompted me to really look into my routines and see how I can optimise my health. I would never have known how important collagen is if I hadn’t got into health and wellbeing.

When you’re taking a GLP-1, most people can expect some weight loss, and this can often be quite rapid. Normally, rapid weight loss can mean people lose skin elasticity a bit quicker and can end up with stretch marks and/or saggy skin. Then can also find their hair thins and falls out due to not getting the right nutrients.

Adding a collagen supplement to your diet can give your hair and nails a boost, as well as improve skin elasticity. If you eat a healthy diet and add a collagen supplement, you can help keep your hair growing strong and maintain good skin elasticity.

Final Verdict on Naked Collagen

I must admit that I really didn’t have a clue how important collagen is and I’d have added it to my diet a lot sooner if I had. After taking this supplement for just a week, I do notice my skin on my face is looking a lot fresher, I can’t wait to see the changes that will have happened after a month!

I was really impressed at how Naked Collagen have avoided sticking any nasty additives in their collagen supplement, and I was even more impressed at how it dissolves with no trouble. I can’t get over how it doesn’t have an odour or flavour, so you can add it to any liquid. You could probably even add it to soup if the mood takes you!
