How to Plan the Perfect Anniversary Date Night

When you’ve been married a little while, life can get in the way of romance. That’s why it’s so important to take time as a couple (without the pressures of kids, work and general life) and have some fun.

An anniversary is the perfect time to do just that.

When it’s your anniversary, it’s personal to just the two of you as a couple. It’s not like birthdays or other celebrations that might mean others want to be included. As a result, I think you should always make a big deal of your anniversary.

I think it’s a great idea to try and do something different every year. Everyday life can fall quickly into a routine, so it makes sense to try and ensure your anniversary doesn’t also fall into one.

How to Plan a Fun Anniversary Date Night

It’s a good idea to start planning your anniversary early. People plan ahead for important events like birthdays and Christmas, so why should your anniversary be any different?

It helps to discuss what sort of thing you’d like to do, put some money aside ready and narrow down the options.

Make Sure the Food is Good

posh restaurant

I’m not saying a date night should revolve around food, but it is often an important area to consider. I personally think you should go somewhere that you’ve never been before (or don’t go often), that’s a little more than you’d usually spend.

A popular and trendy restaurant is always a good bet. You can search on Square Meal UK for the UK’s top restaurants then book in wherever you fancy.

Read reviews before booking to ensure the ambience is right for the night you’re hoping to have. If the mood is very young and upbeat, but you’re after slow, romantic and full of couples who have been together for years, then you might want to find something more suited to your tastes.

Get Away if You Can

If you’ve got the means, the time and the access to babysitters, a night away with your partner will make your anniversary extra special. Spending the night in a hotel, where you don’t have to wash up or do any of the chores that await you back home can be a breath of fresh air for a couple with kids.

A night away also gives you chance to explore what other towns and cities have to offer. While it might be lovely where you live, a short break away from your usual stomping ground gives you fun places to explore.

Do Something Memorable

While the meal and the night away on their own may be memorable activities, it’s a good idea to consciously do something you’ll never forget. Head to a special viewing point to watch an amazing sunset. Go for a fresh water dip in a river. Try to do something entirely different that you’ll always remember as special and linked to this particular anniversary. Whatever you choose, it doesn’t need to be totally wild or crazy, just something you’ve never done before to keep things fresh.
