How to Deal With Excessive Sweating as a Woman

It can be embarrassing to deal with excessive sweating as a woman. While excessive sweating can make anyone feel self conscious, dealing it can be hard to cope with and conceal when you are a woman.

After I had my third baby, I found myself sweating a lot. I was taking some supplements to increase breast milk production, and as a side effect, I was sweating a lot. And I mean a lot. I couldn’t wear makeup because the sweat made it run, it dripped down my back and I was often damp at my hairline.

It made me uncomfortable and self conscious, but I learned a few ways to cope.

How to Deal With Excessive Sweating as a Woman

Below are some of the ways I dealt with excessive sweating as a woman. These are practical tips from what makeup to wear, to anti perspirants I’ve used.

Consider a sweat proof T-shirt

Sweating excessively might put you off from wearing certain clothes because of staining. You might wonder how to stop underarm sweat stains, and the secret is to pick your clothing tactically. Rather that stressing yourself with stain removal products and hacks, consider the material of your clothing. A sweat proof T-shirt will have hidden pads in the underarms to draw in the sweat and stop it from showing on the exterior of the T-shirt. This stops the obvious sweat marks showing while you’re wearing the top and stops those yellowy sweat stains clinging to fabric when you wash it.

Keep clean

While sweating itself isn’t dirty, the longer the sweat is exposed to oxygen, the greater the chance of bacteria growing and creating an odour. Don’t give your sweat the chance to breed bacteria and make sure you bathe or shower daily.

Change your deodorant

While fresh sweat doesn’t smell, you might still want to change up what you’re putting under your arms. Deodorants don’t do anything about sweat, they only combat odour. If you’re looking for an antiperspirant that works, I’ve found both Sure Maximum Protection cream anti perspirant to be the best for me. It’s often on offer for about £3 these days, so shop around and don’t pay full price!

I’d heard a lot of great things about Wild deodorant, but I didn’t get on with it even when my excessive sweating had calmed down. You can read my Wild deodorant review here.

Prepare your face

If like me, the excessive sweating showed on your face as well as your body, you might need some solutions for wearing makeup. I just gave makeup a miss, but my problem was temporary.

If you’re looking for something to use when you want to get dressed up and put on a full face, you need to trial a few products. I switched to waterproof eyeliner and mascara to stop it running down my face with the sweat. I also tried some facial antiperspirant cream. I didn’t like the way it smelt, and there weren’t many other options on the market, but I found some people were using calamine lotion on their face as a base since it’s super absorbent. It worked as a way to soak up the sweat then a powder foundation over the top was also a way to absorb it. You’ll need to do a lot of trial and error with the consistency, as layering up drying powders can make your face look cakey.
