Little Pieces of Luxury

Luxury is very subjective; one person might find oysters and champagne a luxury, while others prefer fluffy socks and a hair mask. And, not all luxury needs to be expensive – it’s all about how it makes you feel.

When we talk about luxuries, what we mean are those things that make us feel great. Something that gives you a little boost whenever you wear them, see them, or use them.

So let’s dive into a couple of things that give you a daily dose of awesome without breaking the bank!

Skincare

Is there anything more luxurious than having soft and supple skin? Most of the time, if you are a busy person, you might only have a few minutes to get showered, and you are back on the go. But if you can make time to take care of your skin properly – you’ll be able to tell the difference almost immediately.

When it comes to skincare, you don’t need to spend the earth to get great ingredients and some of the products you can make at home with a little time and effort.

For example, you can make a great body scrub with salt, olive oil and a little bit of honey. It can do the job of more expensive scrubs for a fraction of the price.

But when it comes to things like improving the appearance of some wrinkles and having a soft glow – you might need to look outside of DIY. Of course, the easiest thing is to drink plenty of water – but after that?

A tried, tested, and much-loved budget moisturiser is Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream; many people state it is a dupe for the more expensive Tatcha Water Cream.

Underwear

Over the years, many people have moved from the thinner strings to the Bridget Jone wash-day undergarments. And who can blame them? They are comfortable, easy to wear and have no fuss.

But from time to time, the occasion (or just because you feel like it) might call for something a little fancier. A good bra can change how everything else looks on you, give you support in all the right places, and make you feel like a whole new person. Of course, matching underwear completes the look. Handmade lace lingerie is a little bit of luxury we could all do with.

But for a more relaxed and yet still stunning option, a high-waisted pair of ribbed undies and matching bra can elevate the lounge-undie look.

Scent

There is something so powerful about scents. The smell of a Lush bath bomb, the fragrance from a freshly washed set of bed sheets, or how your Nan smelled on a Sunday.

Not only that but wearing perfume can increase our own confidence and happiness too. So, perhaps one of the most important luxuries is getting that candle that is made with essential oils and natural fragrances – or maybe one with a crystal in the wax.

When choosing a scent for your home, opt for high-quality and pick something that will brighten you up, make you feel happy – and something you won’t get bored of.

Personal fragrances might take a little longer to find, but once you do, you might be surprised just how fantastic you feel when you wear them.

You don’t need to spend big bucks on a designer name; plenty of dupes are available and more budget-friendly perfume options.

Head to your local fragrance counter and spray a few tester strips with some notes that you want to try. Don’t judge there and then; let it settle on the paper and go back and keep sniffing it.

Keep in mind that it will settle differently on your skin too.

Soft

There is an entire soft aesthetic that is becoming more and more popular in recent years, and the premise is that you surround yourself with soft things. Soft colours, soft textures and a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

If your life is too messy, busy and hectic for the soft life – you can still take a leaf out of their very soft book and get some chenille, brushed cotton and soft ribbed garms.

Start with your feet – which are usually pretty busy all day long. Invest in slippers that have memory foam and are washable. They will support your feet in all the right places and are practical too. Ultra-soft chenille socks can make even the worst of days a little kinder.

And if in doubt, one of the best things you can give yourself is a silk pillow cover and a luxe fleece blanket. Even in the summer, they can offer just the right amount of comfort.
