Why Collagen is Important for Women

As I begrudgingly approach 30, I constantly find myself Googling ways in which I can stay looking (and feeling) like I’m not a day over 21.

I’ve taken steps to improve my diet, made an effort (if sporadic) to exercise and I’m trying really hard to fit a good 8 hours of sleep in where I can. All of these changes are in order to make improvements on the inside, with the hope that it shows on the outside.

I’ve always done these things, because that’s what you do, isn’t it? I didn’t really stop to think about how these actions can keep me looking good.

It turns out, what I’ve been trying to do, without knowing the importance of collagen for women, is make sure my body has enough collagen. Why you need collagen? Collagen is a naturally occurring protein that not only acts as a building block for all of the structures in our bodies, it also gives our skin elasticity. When our collagen production reduces with age, it’s the elasticity we lose, which is what gives us the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The more I looked into it, the more I found out (for example, smoking and sun exposure can reduce the body’s collagen production at a faster rate).

Although maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help with the production of collagen, there’s no way of avoiding the reduced production that comes with age.

After a bit more Googling, I found that you can actually buy collagen supplements from Hellenia and they do a lot more than just keep you looking young. Because collagen is in every part of your body, it makes sense that collagen supplements also aid the recovery of muscle, aid joint protection and even increase bone density.

I also read that it can help with weight management, because it is a type of protein, if you consume it you’ll feel full for longer, which will in turn control your appetite.

It seems that if I take a collagen supplement alongside maintaining a healthy lifestyle, my overall health, and in turn my looks, will improve. Not only should I find it a bit easier to lose weight, I should also be able to stave off the aging process a little longer.

I don’t know what I’m waiting for!

Sharing is caring!

  1. Good post, I started taking a supplement too, as I wanted to slow down ageing as well as prevent stretch marks in pregnancy! I think it worked!
