After spending a year and a half at home, locked down in the same four walls, it seems we, as a nation, collectively had the idea to do some home improvements. Nothing hammers home how much your house needs updating that being forced to spend all your time in it.
With nowhere to go, we’ve been faced with all the flaws of our average homes. And to be honest, there’s no reason our homes should even be average at all. Our lives deserve luxury and we should make the effort to treat ourselves to some.
My favourite room in the house is the bathroom. It’s where I do my extensive skincare routine, where I fake tan, and where I spend hours in the bath pampering myself (and often watching TikTok with a glass of wine in my hand.) That’s why I think all home makeovers should start in the bathroom. If it’s not your favourite room, then maybe pick whichever room you love most.
Tips for a Boujie Bathroom Makeover
Bathrooms deserve to be beautiful. We’re living in a time where our homes are encouraged to be well beyond functional. If all your rooms do are the basics, then you can’t fully take joy in spending time at home. I think we’re probably all in need of a boijie bathroom makeover, and these are my top tips to get you living in the lap of luxury.
Install a home sauna
Saunas are incredibly good for your skin, and can be a great place to unwind. When all the gyms and health clubs closed, millions of people complained about missing the sauna. If you install a traditional home sauna in your bathroom, you’ll never miss a sauna again. You’ll be able to chill in the heat and enjoy the holistic benefits spending time in a sauna brings. It’s one of the most boujie things you can do, but I’m fully behind it. Everyone need a sauna in their luxury bathroom.
Plants! Plants! Plants!

If you can’t quite take the financial hit of full on renovations, there are a few other things you can do. Changing the lighting and buying new towels is one of them, but the one with the most impact is to invest in lots of plants. It might be on-trend to have a home full of plants right now, but that trend is very useful. Being surrounded by greenery can have a calming effect, and plants improve the air quality in your home. So you’ll feel better from looking at your plants, but even being around them has positive effects.
Install a spa bath
Why waste your time bathing in a plain old container of water, if you could have a spa in your own home? The jets will create a pleasant bubbling sensation, that can help relieve pain in your back, neck and feet depending on where you sit. Give your muscles the relaxation they deserve by treating yourself to a spa bath. If you get this alongside your home sauna, you’ll never have to got to the health club again – which means no more making awkward conversation with that one person at every gym who’s always in the sauna!
