I love the distraction of playing games. As a kid I was obsessed with my SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System, I’ll have you know), and a love of games really grew from there. I’m often fighting my kids for a go on the family Switch, and have a few games on my phone – I never really grew out of that Candy Crush phase. I know, I’m so 2011!
The thing is, games are a great distraction from responsibilities and I let my kids play them too. Too much screen time can be a problem, but I encourage a bit to help the kids wind down. Games are a great stress-reliever. That’s probably the reason chrome gives you that little dinosaur running game when your WiFi crashes – to placate you and stop you throwing your laptop at the wall!
I was really glad to come across some free online games that are actually worth playing. A site named plays.org has a great selection of free online games for kids and adults. I’ve found it great place to waste an afternoon when I should be working, a lovely way for my kids to unwind after school.
Free Online Games We Love
So after trying out a few of the games we found, some clear favourites have emerged. To honest, they’re all good and the site is getting new games all the time meaning you’re unlikely to get bored. Ever.
These are the games I can’t keep away from:
Smurfs Snowballs
On this game, you have a crosshair to help you aim your snowy shot. I think you might be playing as a Smurf, and your goal is to hit all the other Smurfs with your snowballs. Don’t worry though they don’t mind! They seem quite thrilled to be playing against you in fact.
It’s simple to play, you use your cursor to aim and click it to fire. You’re bound to keep revisiting this game to beat your best score!
Teen Titans Go Raven’s Rainbow Dreams Flying Game
This game is totally addictive – don’t say I didn’t warn you. I have no excuse to be as into it as I am either, because I’m honestly really terrible at it! That doesn’t make it any less fun though.
You’re Raven from Teen Titans Go, and you’re riding a bouncy unicorn across a beautiful sky. You need to bounce off clouds and collect rainbows. The aim is to avoid the menacing-looking black balloons, which is hard but makes you want to go back for more if you lose.
Mahjong Deluxe
When my family first got a PC, my bought us a Mahjong CD-ROM (yes I’m that old) so that we weren’t just doing homework on it. I’d never heard of Mahjong before that, but ever since I’ve had a big soft spot for it. If you haven’t played before, it’s like a big complicated game of pairs, where you need to work strategically. If you have played it before, you can probably describe it better than me! There are a few different setting for Mahjong, but I always stick the one I know. There are also a few difficulty settings too – I always go for medium because I know my limits!
