Younger children are naturally inquisitive because everything is new to them and with every experience or social interaction, they absorb new information. An inquisitive nature encourages children to ask more questions about things around them. I’ve teamed up with an independent school in Essex to share with you some ways to raise an inquisitive child.
Experience New Things
Get your children to experience different and new things on a regular basis. You could let them pick a different route on the way to school or take them food shopping with you and let them choose new things for their packed lunch! For children to become more inquisitive it’s important they think outside the box as this shows them that there are so many things to experience and learn about. If you stick to the same old routine all the time, your child will eventually run out of things to ask you about.
There are loads of different ideas and days out you can do with your kids to improve their curiosity. Take them to the beach, the zoo or to an aquarium! Taking them to different environments like those will encourage them to ask more questions and give them opportunities to learn new things.
Encourage Your Child to Ask Questions
Make sure your child feels comfortable asking you frequent questions, with positive reinforcement. Answering their questions is quality time that can be spent together and shows them that you’re there to answer any questions they have. By encouraging them to ask questions, they will show more curiosity and be more inquisitive!
Be a Good Role Model
Be a good role model and show your children that you have the same curiosity and are keen to learn new things too. Inspire them and ask open minded questions that can lead to discussions. It is a great way to promote the idea of on-going development in your child, you can also learn new things with them!
