5 Activities to Get Your Kids Outside

Parents are constantly trying to find ways to keep their kids entertained and active. However, with the invention of smartphones and tablets, it has become increasingly difficult for parents to get their children play outside. If you have a child who is always glued to his or her gadgets, here are five outdoor activities you can try to get them out of your house.

Have a treasure hunt

Treasure hunting is a fun and engaging outdoor activity. It allows your kids to stay active and explore. It also helps them to enhance their problem-solving abilities, leadership, and teamwork as they look for the “treasure” to complete the mission.

Looking for items such as shells, rocks, leaves, or anything that could be considered treasure and finding it would excite them. You can create some DIY costumes and props such as treasure box, map, telescope, and jewelries to make their first treasure hunting memorable. You can also prepare some prizes for the winner. They would surely love it.

Fly a kite

Flying a kite is an old children’s game but still fun to play. The good thing about this activity is that it helps your children stay active while giving them a good neck and shoulder exercise. It also enhances their eye and hand coordination and helps them to concentrate.

When you and your kids play this, you would definitely have a good time together. But before that, you can start your bonding by making a kite. Let them be creative. They would be more interested when they fly their own creation.

Kite flying is a game that has been around for many years. It is a great way to bond with your kids while getting some exercise and spending quality time together.

Go on a camp

Camping is a nice outdoor activity for your kids to experience. Spending a night or two in a tent or hammock would definitely become a precious memory when they get old. Aside from that, it is a fun way of teaching them some basic survival skills such as building a shelter, creating a fire, looking for food and water, and basic first aid. You can also teach them some important lessons about the environment,  wildlife, and astronomy (during nighttime while looking at the sky and stars). Being with nature helps them to easily understand these.

Go for Nature Photography

Nature Photography is another fun activity to teach your kids about the environment. It encourages them to explore and discover. It also allows them to be creative. To make it more engaging and educational, you can incorporate the alphabet and numbers. For example, you ask them to take three pictures of the plants or animals that start with letter A. Or you can also just let them take a photo of something that catches their attention while they are walking around. Since they are allowed to use their gadgets, they would love this idea.

At the end, ask them to present their output. This added activity would help them develop their public speaking skills and build their confidence.

Do some fishing

Opposite to what others think, fishing is fun. This activity allows your kids to relax and learn some valuable virtues like patience and perseverance. Catching a fish would be a wonderful bonding experience for you and your kids.
