Get Over Yourself! Giving Your Best to Your Kids

Sometimes it’s hard for us to give our all as a parent. Life pulls us in so many different directions. When we have work to do and a home to look after, we can feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of duties. But the one priority of it all is to make sure that our children are healthy and happy. But when we feel we’re not giving our best to our children, what can we do? The answer is about some small approaches, but also cutting yourself some slack.

Stop the Fear

If you feel that every time you take your kids out somewhere that something bad is going to happen, chances are that it will! Sometimes we can feel fearful and this seems to color our entire lives. You might be someone that dreads taking the children out in the car because of the fact that they argue so much in the back that your mind goes into full-blown chaos theory mode! Because they are making noise, you’re not able to concentrate so, therefore, you don’t hit the brake in time, which means that before you know it you’ve spent years dealing with highly experienced car accident lawyers, and have sworn to yourself that you will never drive again! If you stop yourself doing things before you start, what does this communicate to the kids? It’s about weighing the risk versus the benefit. And we can all have those moments where we feel that, before we step into the car that something bad is going to happen, but it’s about taking the steps to reduce that fear.

Make Time for Play

How many times have you said today “I’m too busy?” When we continually tell our children that there’s no time to play, this could run the risk of turning them into very serious individuals. In addition, they will think that after a while we won’t want to play with them. No matter how little time it is, if you can sacrifice a few minutes every day to play outside or just help them do something, it can be all they need to feel that you are there for them. But you have to remember the player is not just for their benefits it can help you as well. When we are working and trying to balance everything, especially during this difficult time, taking a few minutes out to completely forget about duties and just enjoy ourselves can be all we need.

Quality Time, Not Quantity Time

If you could give the best to your kids for a few minutes a day, this might be all you need. But you have to remember that you may very well be judging yourself too harshly. Focus on quality time rather than quantity time. The current situation means that we have to grow so many arms to keep all these plates spinning. Focus on each thing at a time and give it the quality time it needs and this will be all you need to do.
