Giving Mindfulness a Try With LoveCrafts | AD

Our household has had a stressful few months, which isn’t ideal for anyone especially since baby number three is due in around 6 weeks! Thankfully, things have started to settle down for us, but I’ve still needed a little help to unwind.

When LoveCrafts got in touch to see if I’d used crafting to practise mindfulness before, I was intrigued. I hadn’t considered that crafting could be used this way. In the past I’ve learned to knit (in a very basic way) and could previously crochet reasonably well, but since having Greg, all crafting has fallen by the wayside. Greg is five now, so I’m pretty rusty!

I agreed to give crafting and mindfulness a go after all, it seemed right up my street and exactly what I needed. I’ve also been curious about calmer, low-pressure crafts you can do at your own pace, like those paint-by-number kits you can order in the UK, where you simply follow the guide and let your mind switch off for a while.

How Crafting Helps Mindfulness

A big chunk of mindfulness involves focusing in the moment. During that time, it enables you to let your worries melt away and be very present in that moment. Another aspect of crafting is that creativity is thought to release endorphins, so that combined with being in the moment can really help you relax.

The more mental wellness is linked to craft activities, the more popular they become! I’m looking forward to gaining some new skills, as well as polishing up my old rusty ones.

My LoveCrafts Haul

As I mentioned above, LoveCraft very kindly sent me a gorgeous bundle of craft supplies to work through in the run up to the birth. I’m very much looking forward to getting some ‘me time’ and having a go a mindfulness through crafting.

Below is everything I got, and in the coming weeks I’ll share my finished projects as I complete them. Look at my gorgeous haul!

MillaMia Naturally Soft Super Chunky Yarn

First on my list is this very soft, very chunky MillaMia Naturally Soft Super Chunky Yarn in ‘Sunshine’ to have a go at making the Lia Scarf (free pattern). Obviously knitting can’t happen without the needles, so I was also sent a pair of these lovely thick 12mm bad boys!

Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran

Crochet is an old fave. I got moderately good at it a few years ago, then ran out of time and never returned. This selection of Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran Yarn was the perfect way to ease back in. I also received the crochet hook and used a free pattern for washcloths to get me going. They can be used for faces or the pots, but I think I’m going to use them as reusable cleaning cloths to clean my new baby’s face. They’re very soft and hard-wearing, and much kinder to skin (and the environment) than using wipes. I’ve already made a couple so far and I’m determined to work up a few more before my due date!

DMC Bicycle Embroidery Kit

I’ve never done embroidery, but I’m always willing to learn if I can make something pretty. This embroidery kit is so cute – I can’t wait to give it a go!

DMC Rose Cross-Stitch Kit

When I was about ten, my Nan used to get me children’s cross stitch kits, that taught me the stitch but weren’t intricate like adult ones. I learnt to cross stitch and got really into it, but haven’t touched it in 20 years. I’m looking forward to giving this a go, my Nan was always great at this sort of stuff and I’d like to think I’ve inherited the skill.

A DMC Fruit Magic Embroidery Paper Kit

This A DMC Fruit Magic Embroidery Paper Kit looks like a fun way to customise clothes. I suspect that since I’m stuck in boring maternity-wear that my 11-year-old daughter will want to reap the fruits of my labour.

I’ve got quite a few projects in the pipeline to keep me busy on the count down to birth. I love the chance to be creative and this bundle is just the push I needed!
