*Ad – we received the FabLab Tie Dye kit for the purpose of this review

We were really excited to receive the FabLab Tie Dye Luxury Kit from Interplay to review. My daughter is really creative, loves designing clothes and thinks these sort of practical kits are loads of fun.
FabLab Tie Dye Kit Review
Emma has never had the opportunity to use a tie dye kit before, so she was delighted to find out we’d been sent one to review. She enjoys fashion design activities and can often be found drawing different patterns and clothes. Giving her the opportunity to use a tie dye kit and wear the clothes she’s designed has been amazing.
FabLab Tie Dye Kit – What’s in the box?
This tie dye kit doesn’t include any clothing to dye, which is good because it gives you the freedom to dye whatever you like.
The box contains:
- 7 x plastic applicator bottles containing dye mixture.
- 50 x latex-free elastic bands.
- 3 x proective gloves.
- Yellow dye.
- Turquoise dye.
- Purple dye.
- Fuschia dye.
- Red dye.
- Blue dye.
- Green dye.
How to use the kit

Before doing anything, you need to prep the fabric of the clothing you plan to dye. You do this by soaking it in warm water first.
Wring out the clothing so it’s damp, then start creating your design by adding elastic bands to various areas of the T-shirts to help make patterns.

The instructions booklet that comes with the tie dye kit gives some inspiration for arranging the elastic bands, but you can always make it up yourself.

When you’re ready to start dying, prepare the dye mix by adding water to the bottles.

Then it’s up to you to make the patterns you choose!

Emma put a lot of thought into her designs and took great care to create a pattern close to what she was imagining.

We put a plastic sheet down to help protect our carpet – and I’m really glad we did! I definitely recommend you get a cheap plastic table cloth for slightly messy kits like this!

Once you’ve applied the dye how you like it, pop it in a carrier bag near somewhere warm for a few hours to help the dye set. We put ours near a radiator over night, but you don’t normally need to leave it that long.
Rinse the clothing once the dye has set and leave it to dry.
FabLab Tie Dye Kit – The Results!

We left our T-shirts to dry on a radiator, then they were ready to wear!
Everyone was really impressed with the tie dye results and Emma has been getting lots of compliments for her fancy tops.

Emma made both of these design up herself, and I think they’re fantastic!

Both T-shirts are absolutely gorgeous and we’ve got loads of dye left so we’re going to do some more. Emma would like some tie dye jeans and a tie dye bag, so I think we’ve got a tie dye challenge in our future!
