Creating a gorgeous garden doesn’t need to be hard work. Modern gardens don’t necessarily need a lot of maintenance (unless that’s what you’re looking for in a garden).
I’m one of those people who wants their garden to look perfect, but I don’t want to put in hours of effort for the dream result. Obviously paying a gardener is an option, but if you’ve got big ambitions for your outdoor space, this could be an expensive option.

These are my top tips for making your garden gorgeous. I’m not big on having to put hard physical work into projects, so rest assured, these are laid back ideas.
Fake it
A real lawn is kind of high maintenance. It needs regular cutting and the edges often need to be shaped too, which is far more work than I’m willing to commit to. Maintaining artificial grass is a much easier task. Once your artificial grass is laid, it looks good and green all year round. It never gets long, and you don’t get any of those weird discoloured patches that regular lawns get. Basically artificial grass is an all-round winner! Invest in hard-wearing garden furniture
This one is pretty self-explanatory. While it might be tempting to snap up cheap garden furniture in supermarket bargain aisles, it won’t stand the test of time unless the quality is good. I’m a fan of buying something once and never having to think about it again. It seems like such a waste to spend your money of cheap furniture that only lasts one summer and needs replacing the next year. Do you research, get inspiration from Pinterest and save up if you have to. It’s better to spend one summer saving and furniture-less than it is to throw away money (and furniture) every year because you didn’t buy high quality.
Illumination is key
Once you’ve made your garden beautiful, you’re going to want to spend a lot of time out there. Think about what sort of garden lighting you’ll need. UV powered lights are kind to the environment, so try and get as much light from those as you can. UV lights are also very low maintenance as there are no batteries to change and all the power comes from the sun!
Fairy lights strung up along a garden path make the area look magical, and will impress any guests that pop over. Keep the garden seating area well lit so that it’s comfortable to be out there late into the evening. Deck lighting can create a soft light look that makes those hazy summer nights all melt into one.
