LED lighting is a great environmentally-friendly option for every room in your house.

How to Modernise Your Home with LED Lighting
LED lights are extremely energy efficient bulbs that are also long lasting. This means they are kind to the environment as well as being kind to your bank balance. Win – win! It makes sense that you would want to work through your house, replacing the lighting as you improve each room.
Modernising your kitchen with LED lighting and environmentally friendly appliances
Updating your kitchen is a big job, but probably one of the most rewarding. To have a truly modern home, it needs to be environmentally friendly. Power-guzzling appliances are a thing of the past and modernising means opting for energy efficiency.
LED down-lights are an aesthetically pleasing energy efficient option. They illuminate the room well without using up too much energy. If you’re not sure of your needs, you can use a handy LED lighting calculator to help you fix up your room.
Kitchen appliances can be updated for any that are rated A for energy. These days you can get energy efficient washers, dryers, microwaves and anything else you might need. Although there will be some cost involved in replacing everything, the long term rewards will be huge, both financially and environmentally.
Modernising your bathroom
For me, bathroom lighting is really important. It’s the place I scrutinise my pores as well as doing a lot of plucking and primping. I need a big mirror and lots of bright lighting, which is why LED lights can be handy. Replacing traditional lights with LED lights tends to illuminate your bathroom much more than before, but costs you much less to do so. If you’re modernising everything on a smallish budget, I’d probably start with the bathroom and work your way around to the kitchen last (with the kitchen being the most expensive).
Other ways to modernise your bathroom (without ripping the whole suite out) are to make it more environmentally friendly all round. We’ve always bought recycled loo roll (which is a start, I guess) and we get dripping taps fixed ASAP, but an energy efficient shower head will really make a difference.
Energy efficient shower heads are available in two main types: non-aerating, which push the water through smaller holes to artificially increase the pressure with less water; and aerating shower heads, which restrict the flow of water by adding air, which makes it appear as if the water volume hasn’t been reduced. Either will do the job, it’s just down to personal preference.
Updating the rest of your home
Because it’s great to be green, lots of beautiful light fittings are now LED compatible. Not only will your new lighting cost less to run, it’ll also brighten your home. Most TVs are energy efficient now, but it always pays to turn them off at the wall overnight (unless you’re recording something). There aren’t many other energy-eating appliances that you’ll find around a modern home, so just remember to switch things off when they aren’t being used.
Once you’ve replaced your light fittings and lamps for LED ones, you can rest assured that you finally have a truly modern home!
