Festive songs are almost a guaranteed way to lift the Christmas spirit. Once the kids have unwrapped all of the presents and the turkey has been devoured, there’s nothing better than chilling out with your favourite tipple and enjoying the gentle melody of a background Christmas tune.
Selection wise, it’s hard to beat the library of yuletide tunes that have released over the years. Most recently, Michael Bublé aka the master of croon, has captured seasonal hearts with his versions of classic Crimbo songs. Seriously, it’s practically impossible not to get in the holiday mood as the Canadian superstar delivers his rendition of “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”.
Of course, Mr Bublé isn’t the only bona fide Christmas star. Mariah Carey staked her claim to xmas music legend with her outstanding song, “All I Want for Christmas Is You”. This upbeat pop number instantly became an essential Crimbo listen – and you would be hard pressed not to find it on any self-respecting festive album.
And then we have The Pogues and their most famous track, “Fairytale of New York”. Compared to Mariah’s upbeat pop and Bublé’s silky smooth crooning, this tale of drunkenness and miserable luck doesn’t seem like the kind of song to feature on a Christmas album. But once that Irish melody kicks in however, it’s turkeys and presents for all! We hear it’s a favourite for the guys at www.bgo.com.
In truth, we have probably heard these tunes about a million times. You may even be able to recognise a song just by looking at some of the lyrics.
