Hipster glasses are kind of my thing. In fact, working in an opticians from being 17, hipster glasses were my things before they were anyone’s thing. I’ve always been a fan of eyewear as an accessory rather than a necessity. I mean sure, you need them to see, but they might as well be stylish and showstopping while you’re at it!
When perfectglasses.co.uk offered me a chance to check out their specs and their service, I couldn’t refuse. I’d already received some sunglasses from them last year (you should probably check out their prescription sunglasses this year too, they’re really cool again).
Since I already had as style idea in mind, I knew what I was looking for: large, plastics frames, possibly from a unisex or gents section. The site was super easy to navigate so I found my options pretty quickly. I went for a brown two-tone large plastic frame:
When the glasses arrived, I was so pleased to see what excellent quality they were. It can sometimes be quite difficult to tell if something is going to be well-made when all you’ve seen is a picture, but both these and the sunglasses I got last year have been sturdy and of high quality. I was also pleased to see they looked exactly how I expected them to and the sizing was as expected too.
The look I wanted was oversized hipster glasses and I think that’s exactly what I received. As a rule, men’s glasses are bigger than those made for women, so I shopped the men’s section first because I have quite a big face anyway. If you’re a petite lady and you’re going for the hipster glasses look, you might find a frame from the women’s glasses range is perfectly adequate. Here’s how these specs fit me:
This is exactly the hipster glasses look I was going for and I’m really pleased with them. I’m also impressed at how quickly I received the glasses too. After I’d placed the order it was only a couple of days before the postman handed them to me. Very quick service! I should probably also mention that I can see out of them too, that’s something I’d want to know about when buying glasses online. I can vouch for these; they’re made well and I can see!
I feel like by going on about hipster glasses that I’ve undersold just how amazing the variety of choice is. I went in with a look in mind, but while I was browsing I saw so many different styles, there’s definitely something for everyone, no matter what your style leanings are. The site is also perfect if you’re on a tight budget. All of the glasses are a really good price, even the designer glasses (which can fetch quite a price tag in high street opticians) are a bargain. Some of the styles even start from £9(!) and that’s including lenses and a scratch resistant coating, so there’s no hidden costs.
Buying hipster glasses for yourself
There’s load of cool styles of glasses out there that are a little bit different. Don’t get hung up on the idea that they have to be plastic and they have to be big, because that’s just not true.
If you don’t feel comfortable in large plastic frames, opt for something with a thin metal rim, or completely rimless. Rectangular glasses are in fashion at the moment, but the fashion forward are wearing round gold metal frames to really stand out from the crowd.
I think the only rule for finding the right pair of hipster glasses for yourself is to break all the rules. Go big, go bold, go for nothing like you’ve ever seen before. There’s not really any rigid rules about face shapes and frame styles so just go with your gut. I’m sure your own individual style will shine through, and that’s what you want, isn’t it?
Based on my experience with Perfect Glasses, I wholeheartedly recommend them for if you’re considering buying glasses online.
