I’ve never really spent a lot of time thinking about he ‘right’ makeup colours. My interest in makeup has spanned almost two decades, meaning there’s been a lot of trial and error during that time (and some very interesting looks!). Then my friend from school go in touch to say she’d just received some training on picking the right colours for your overall colouring, and would I like to be her guinea pig? Obviously I said yes because I love stuff like this!
In case you were wondering, she’s call Jo, she runs a personal stylist business, and this is her blog.
Colour Me Beautiful Review/ Makeup Colour Consultation
If I’m honest, I’ve never really bought into colours being on a yes pile or a never ever pile, but Jo came equipt with some coloured cloth and may have started to change my mind. First of all she showed me a colour palette that would clash with my colouring, but would suit someone with different tones. After that she showed me a colour palette with some softer tones so I could compare. The photos below show me without makeup. Try not to scream.
Without makeup on, it’s easy to see I’m naturally very pale and I secretly have barely any eyebrows. The bright colours on the left wash me out even further.
Jo then sat me down and we discussed what the different colour types were. She’s done her homework before she came over and already knew I needed the soft shades. Apparently, the soft colouring type are people like me with hardly any contrast between our skin colour, hair colour or eye colour. That’s me alright.
After we’d had a chat about colouring, she prepared a Colour Me Beautiful makeup colour palette and applied. These are the colours that she thought would suit me best:
She also gave me a choice of lipsticks of for her to apply, all within the suggested soft tones palette.
Colour Me Beautiful Makeup Application
Jo was really professional when it came to applying the makeup. She told me what she was doing as she went along, and used brand new brushes for application, which she disposed of at the end. She also used anti bacterial gel on her hands before she started.
I was asked what kind of look I’d like and since I was trying something new by having a colour consultation, I asked for a natural look. I’m normally one for statement eyes and won’t go anywhere without an eyeliner flick so I wash interested to see if I’d like the natural look after being colour matched.
Personally I think those colours are perfect on me. They add a bit of warmth to my normally pale complexion but they don’t clash in any way. I didn’t apply any of the makeup myself so I can’t really comment on how it applies, but I found the lipstick to feel really lovely and buttery on and it lasted well without being drying.
Overall I was really pleased with my colour consultation with Jo. You can reach her on her website, or follow her on Facebook. She offers complimentary colour consultations so it’s worth getting in touch!
